Passengers getting off a plane and ready for an airport transfer

Gatwick is one of the most bustling single-runway airports. It’s about half an hour from London and serves around 200 destinations in over 80 countries. Since many low-cost airlines fly into and out of London Gatwick, many people opt to fly there instead of Heathrow even though the destinations are the same. If you plan to get a Southampton taxi and ride it from Southampton to Gatwick, Go Comfort is always at your service.

Here are some useful tips for flying into and out of Gatwick if you’re leaving the city.

General Tips

Whether you’ve had an airport transfer or are coming out of a premium taxi, anyone arriving at Gatwick is required to pass through passport control. Based on the number of travellers, this could result in wait times of between 5 to 20 minutes or even up to an hour. Similar to most airports in Europe, there are two distinct lines for British and Swiss Nationals, citizens of the European Union (EU), European Economic Area (EEA), and all other nationalities.

International connections do not require passing through passport control or customs. You must pass through these two places to travel internationally to the UK and Ireland. You can use the ePassport entrance if you own a chipped EU passport.

Tips For Departure

There are two terminals (North and South) at Gatwick Airport. Get help from the “Which Terminal” tool or look up your reservation to find out which terminal you are flying out of. There are services that can take you from one terminal to another. They’re quick, simple, free, available around the clock, and run between terminals.

There are certain limitations on carry-on luggage. You’re only permitted one item of carryon that must be 56cm x 45cm x 25cm. Most airlines also permit travellers to carry handbags, but you should double-check with your airline beforehand to be certain.

Tiny quantities of fluids, lotions, creams, and pastes (in containers no larger than 100ml) are permitted in carry-on luggage. These need to be kept in a see-through bag that can’t be bigger than 20 cm by 20 cm. This bag will be subject to a separate security screening.

Tips For Security

Here are some things that you need to keep in mind while passing through security:

  • Keep your boarding pass handy so that it can be inspected.
  • Put all your hygiene products, colognes, perfumes, and beauty products (in bottles containing 100ml or less) in a single clear, resealable Ziploc bag so security personnel can x-ray them all individually.
  • If you want to go through security quickly, you can keep this sealable bag in your hand.
  • Take off your jacket and coat. They get separately screened.
  • Carry your tablet, phone, laptop, and other electronics so that they can be separately X-rayed.
  • If you leave any such electronics in your handbag, your bag will be inspected, which will cause a delay.
  • Take off your shoes and your belt before your pass through security.
